Fields Brewing Co. Could Be Your New Best Mates!

A few weeks ago Clutz and I sat down with Luke from Fields Brewing Co on our Crushin’ Tins Podcast to learn a bit about what it’s like to be a newcomer in the Brisbane Beer industry.

Luke is a Property Developer by trade, who previously worked for McDonalds and recently has had a crack at living the dream and brewing his own beer.

Luke reckons “You’ll never meet a bigger group of pissed blokes or women than in the Property Industry” so it almost seems like the natural progression.

He currently is still involved in the industry, working for himself by day and diving into all things beer by night.

According to Luke, Fields Beer is genuine and uncomplicated.

I tend to agree.

I’ve tried both the Lager and Pale Ale and they were both absolutely delicious beers. Nothing extravagant or over the top, but definitely something I could see as a staple in my fridge.

“I respect and love the beer industry and in the past 5 years it’s been awesome to see people come out and try new things but it’s coming to the point where, in my opinion, it’s almost gone a little too far”.

Fields are all about nailing a quality beer, “You’ll never see anything too outrageous from us” Luke reckons and personally, I love that.

I’m all for a hectic Imperial Sour, or Milkshake IPA, but I believe there are some occasions where you just want a staple beer that you can sit back and enjoy.

I often find myself buying single cans of weird beers to try, but whenever I want to have more than a few, I always head back to my old faithfuls, the XXXX Gold.

I honestly think that Fields could become part of my staple beer collection, they are delicious beers that you can enjoy a fair few of.

“The beers are not simple, we want it to be fantastic and we think we’ve developed that through Brendales guidance”.

Luke actually went to Uni with his now good mate Ryan, who brews for Brendale Brewing

Fields have used Gyspsy Brewing through Brendale as a cost effective way to enter the market.

“It probably costs $1m to set up a brewery, which is a big expense.”

“This isn't my bread and butter yet, if i could make a career out of selling beer, I’d absolutely love to, but this was an opportunity to get into the market without those set up costs.”

Luke worked closely with the team at Brendale Brewing to create their first two beers, A Lager and a Pale Ale, which both completely sold out within a month of release!

“Launching with the cans was a good way to get the brand out there.”

“It was something that people could touch and feel.”

“Ryan and his team have been incredibly helpful.”

“They produce an exceptional product and have helped us get to the point where we are now.”

Luke also mentioned that he’s keen to work with as many breweries as possible in the future to “learn from the best”. It’s a pretty cool way to enter the market when you think about it.

We were actually lucky enough to snag our first every Bloody Brilliant Beers exclusive through this Podcast!

Fields are expanding their range to include a Porter and an IPA as of today, the 30th of June!

Honestly, both Clutz and I loved the two beers we tried, I cannot wait to wrap my laughing gear around these 2 fresh new releases.

Of course, we had to ask Luke what his top 5 beers of all time were:

  1. Single Fin - “I enjoyed a few of these while watching the Rugby World Cup after the birth of my first Daughter.”
  2. Colonial Pale Ale - “How good is rippin’ the lid off.”
  3. Guinness - “Parents in law introduced me to it, i always find it’s a leveler for me.”
  4. XXXX Gold - “You can’t take the QLD bogan out of me, the Milton Mango is a go to option.”
  5. Longboard Pale Ale - “I had it about 3 or 4 years ago while working in sydney and it was the best beer I’ve had in awhile, I don’t think they are around any more.”

As you can probably tell, Luke is a no nonsense bloke, who makes no nonsense beer. He’s an absolute legend and we can’t thank him enough for taking the time out to talk to us.

We never like to promote beers unless we actually really enjoy them, there have been plenty of beers that we have hosed in our group, however these beers are a cut above.

If you’re keen to see for yourself, you can find their beers here.

Until next time, bye for now.
